394 Restoration - need a lot of advice.

Post by tonyf »

As part of my raid on the South coast from Wales, I bought a Fizzy unseen and just based on information. The money was right, but now I need a load of advice.

It is meant to be a blue (thanks Per) 1977. As you can see from the parts, it has a mix of stuff and the big boys book of Fizzy's is telling me the new shocks should be on an FS1-ED, the Kenny Roberts colours should be on a DX. It shouldnt have a disc brake (77, Blue, Drum). It also has foot rests.

The engine number does not match - it is a 394 but not the same numbers. Parts missing or required so far are: Front Mudguards, Pedal assembly, front wheel, right hand engine case, switchgear (not the ignition etc as they all match ok).

This is not a quick project to buy and sell, I want to restore this along with the 2G0 with my two young lads and if it takes a year then so be-it.

What would you do? I want to make it a nice bike but as it doesnt have the matching engine numbers... Would you make it into a hybrid? Would you sell the parts that are wrong and acquire the right parts. If I was to do it original, also means changing the front end?

I would send the crankcases to me and have the correct number put into one of my blank casings.
The bike will have matching numbers so for gods sake dont change a thing STD!

Just been swapping e-mails with Ted... As I'm doing the 2G0 as original, maybe I'll do this as a special. I do have an obsession with V twins! LOL :D

It's meant to be an Autolube in Blue - unfortunately, the frame number is the only thing "blue" about it! You've seen the pics above!!
