Which one?

Post by Oliverreilly »

Which fuel tap is correct for my 73 SS? It was registered August 73 if that helps? Many thanks, Oliver.

You mean 'the one that's solid with gunk and will take ages to clean out'? ;) :( its actually full of varnish! And did these use to have a fuel filter like the one on the right?

Yes they had a filter, but a different design to the one on the later tap. You dont see loads of bikes still fitted with them as the lever used to break off.

The "varnish" is old 40 year old fuel and 2-stroke oil dried up ;) :? :|

With strip and a good vapour blast and a polish up it would look like new

Some good advice there, thanks! What kind of filter does it need, or should I just put a filter in the fuel line between the tank and the carb? The gunk is like resin. I normally drop them in fuel injector cleaner for a week or so, and then blow through them. Not with a compressor, but with my soft, supple baby like lips. ;)

Glad my lever isn't broken on mine! Cheers, Oliver.

I may have one around somewhere with the filter still attached, i seem to remember it has a spiral on it but i am getting old and my memory may be playing tricks. I will have a looky at the weekend.

I'd definitely be interested of you had one. Let me know if you find it and what price you have in mind :)
