Seat base.

Okay guys, had a proper look at my seat base and it's not looking great. The bracket where the strap bolts through has rusted through. It's a shame as the cover and foam are both mint. I know these are rare too as one which had a rough cover but good foam and surface rusted, but solid base sold for over £100 on eBay. The only thing wrong with my base is the little bit that has rusted through.

My question is.... Has anyone tried welding their base? Or is there a better way of fixing it? I was thinking of getting it blasted, weld it up and then grinding the welds down, followed by a liberal coat of hammerite or some sort of corrosion preventing paint.

had mine welded up ground the welds down then powder coated, turned out ok , after all you dont look at the base

Yep mine was Horrid but i didnt want a pattern seat at any cost, Chas on here welded it up for me adding a set of seat spikes from ebay to secure the cover as the original tanks were past saving. Had it powder coated after for about 10-15 quid and it will outlast the bike now.
