genuine wheels usually have araya stamped into them, very early ones in the centre of rim near where the valve goes
genuine pedal cranks have pat.pend on the l/h one ( one wit the cog on ) r/h side is difficult to tell genuine from pattern, although now some pattern pedal cranks out on the market with pat.pend on but generally not as good a quality

I have some pedal ranks without pat pan on, i was assured they came from a yamaha dealer, did they stop putting pat pen on later models.

Hi mate, your early rims will be stamped ARYI next to the hole for the valve. front 120x17 rear 140x17, later on they changed to ARAYA around 76. Pedal crank on lefthandside will say PAT PENDING in raised letters, r/H side has no marks but should be the same rough zinc finish. Genuine pedals have reflectors in them, also it says MADE IN JAPAN on the end caps and they are bolted together as opposed to being riveted, and therefore you can take them apart. :o 8-) hope this info helps you :)
