Mineral or synthetic 2 stroke?...20:1 or weaker?

Post by tubsaeng01 »

Can any experts have some final word to help me?...Recently got a '76 DX in very good condition overall...different people are 'advising' different things re 2 stroke oil...I'm using Shell mineral SX2 at 20:1..being told a fully synthetic oil at 30:1 would be better?....gives less smoke better/cleaner running etc....?..

.Also it has a new NGK B8HS plug...which I'm getting different 'opnions' about from people like me who had fizzies in their day!...

I'm not particularly 'mechanical' minded...Can anyone give a definitive opnion(s) ...it's a nice bike with what seems a good engine ...don't want to damage anything!.....any thoughts appreciated!!....Ta in advance..

I'm running semi-synthetic at 20:1 and B7hs plug.
Don't run at 30:1 ratio :o Newer engines may well be designed to run on that ratio, yet not the little fussy fizzy engine; it will run too hot.

I'm not over impressesd with semi-synthetic, next tank of fuel, i'm going to try castrol bog standard mineral.

Thanks for input...I'll stick with 20:1 mineral and get an NGK B7HS plug....don't know the difference with a B8HS but we'll see!...

B7HS is a standard plug.
I hope i have this right

It's about heat range: 8 is a cooler plug and 6 would be a hotter plug.

I was told today by the "Fizzy Doctor" that standard as recommended by YAMAHA is always best!

Mineral Oil at 20:1 ;)

I know a member who didnt take my advice for using mineral oil at 20-1 and he used synthetic at 30-1 and melted his piston after half a tank a fuel.

I alsways use good old smokey mineral oil at 20-1
