Moving mountains!

I have a customer who thinks his AP50 should be cherry red like a Kawasaki I painted recently which is like a red bottle of wine, he then sent his tins back to me and I did a sprayout card with some RS bike paint that he supplied, this was exactly the same colour as my original paintwork.
So I repainted it all this time using a pink basecoat to give it a pinky hue as its a candy the under colour reflects thhorugh.
This time is it much redder I have to admit however its not an AP colour and he is insistant that his bike should be the darker red as in the B models.
So i waddled off to Robinsons and got a colour match in the guise of a fork shroud which I think is off an A100 again a colour called caledonian Red a much darker colour and although what you see next does look orange I can assure all of you its a very dark red.
He know tells me jamacan red is a perfect match my paint guy has never heard of this colour and in the end it turns out to be almost a flat red not even metalic, I have now recomended he takes it elsewhere.
Am I right or am I wrong?

Although it look orangy in the pictures it is definatly red


The whole problem being is a candy is a tinted laquer and the picture is seeing through it into the silver underneath..

What do I know I have only been painting for 33 years?

Invite the customer down and show him what you are doing and if that's not good enough tell him to do one!

RS paints as we know are not very good colour matches anyway as we all know!!

RS paints are bloody awful, wish I'd kept those candy red fork shrouds for you to show him mate

Personally,i wasnt happy with the colour that the first tinset came out,too coppery/orange.I haven't however obviously had the opportunity to see it redone,but if the images are an accurate reproduction of the colour then there seems little of issue in my book.

No car colour would be close match for ap50 m model,the car colour wouldn't even be a candy as virtually no mainstream cars are(Pt cruiser excepted).

An Ap "M" model should be a medium candy red with a slight pinky hue,hence the candy rose name.
The b model is Candy Gypsy Red which is just a plain darker Candy red.The Kawasaki tinset mentioned is far to dark for an M model.

I think that your un-likely to meet the expectations of your customer in this instance and should let the job go elsewhere. If there is no confidence in your colour then let it go.

Its a pill to swallow but sometimes you just have to let it go as Customer is entitled to get what they want,even if its not as it actually should be.
