There are currently 28 x "SS" fizzys on the Club/UK Register but loads more still out there I believe?

The earliest number is currently *394-000134*(UK model #34 off the production line) and the latest is *394-00990?* (#980? (nine thousand eight hundred and something))

YAMAHA made around ten thousand "SS"'s before changing the livery to "FS1-E" courtesy of pressure from Mr Honda and their SS50 trademark/copyright.

The interesting fact is that it was always sold as the "Sixteener-Special" "FS1-E" as per the sales brochure, which can be clearly seen on pages1, 2 and 3 below.

the early one has the smooth casing, but the later bike has frame numbe 008785 but a later engine 014912 from a popsi. my mate was unable to locate the original engine or casing when he got it. & yes it has some very dodgy wireing. but it goes well.

If you inspect the brochure carefully you will notice the pedal chain mechanism is on the same side as the clutch ;) so it,s safe to say even original literature is not to be relied upon :) obviously the negative was upsidedown when they printed the brochure ;)

I like the picture of the guy apparently 'pedalling' along at great speed

I have never been able to master that one

We did get the early SS with straight bars and no indicators :) i can remember a mates older brother having a new one 8-) if you have an early owners handbook it has an attatchment in red ink stuck in stating a set of flashers as a £10 optional extra :(
