We all wanted our old bike back

Postby funkymoped » Wed Dec 23, 2009 7:11 pm

Some of us are fortunate to have Fizzy Doctor as the bikes owner some of us are not.
A customer today was not so fortunate.
Deciding he wanted to find his old bike he went to the bike shop he p/x'd in with 30 odd years ago and placed an add in the window, he got a call that said, "I think I have what you are looking for" sent him a piccy of the rear end low and behold it was his bike,
Thinking christmas has come early and the guy wanting £500 for it off he went in hot pursuit.
In the mean time he had sold his current restored fizzy to part fund the resto only to find when he got there the bike had had a smash the headstock was flat, the front wheel is where the missing engine once lived and to top it all the guy had covered it in carpet under a leaky shed roof.
So no engine a frame that has rotted through and no tank yet the guy still thought it worth £500.00, my cutomer said its worthless and walked away.

What would you have done!

I said go back and offer him a £100.00 and we can at least have a starting point.

Well it was me, hello to all.
I did go back on boxing day to try to get it for a sensible amount, I had tried to call for days with no reply, it isnt local and was a 250 round trip, when I got there he had skipped it xmas eve, went to the tip and gave him so cash to come with me and show me where he had put the pieces, too late gone. :(
it was total wreck, even the headstock which was like a swans neck due to massive head on by the looks of it was square due to corrosion and rotten, frame had rusted through completely in the middle, tank was gone, electrics gone and just about eveything else knackered except a bent numberplate, no paperwork and engine missing and he says he never found that when he dumped the rest, even the forks were so bent they were where the engine should have been, so yes I missed it, blew it, saw sense, whatever its dead and buried now!
