Have you been out and about?

Postby allspeed » Sat Feb 06, 2010 4:49 pm

Opened my account today for 2010,a real nice 35 mile ride and not cold at all :P
Bike ran great, the clutch slip is as ever present but i am happy it now runs as it should. One small prob which keeps cropping up up is on the throttle stop if i adjust for a decent tickover it either then jams the throttle solid and wont open or i back off the stop a knats and it releases the throttle but then wont tick over
So far ive changed the carb and now today the top, slide, throttle stop rod and throttle stop, still the same, although i eventually have got it to tick over ok but now the throttle doesnt return on its own as it did before
Fook all this lark, are gen pre mix throttles cables still available for braced bars or can anyone recommend a decent brand thats not stupid long and does actually screw into the handlebar housing.
This aside its been a real fun ride, down on the tank down hill twice as well

Ok the best cables that fit and that are still available if you scout around are the R & R ones
I use them on most bikes. Genuine 70's replacement.
They even have the part number stamped on them as well.

Yamaha still supply them but the zinc adjuster just down the cable a bit is plastic.

Hi Lex have a different thread and dont screw into the handle bars.

If you want the right look and feel the R & R one is your best choice.

I have used some other ones that where made under license from Yamaha which have a white sleeve on them which has the part number on it again well nice and Pers SS3 has one on it, I would say these are bertter than original.

A squirt of WD40 down the hole make them zip back quicker than you can ever imagine...

Now as reagrds throttle cables you are as wise as me, However I am sure the Doc may know more than I on the subject.

I have always used genuine cables with no problems but as Tony has stated the throttle cables now come with a black plastic adjuster at the top which looks a bit naff

On the DX that I am doing at the moment I have used some really good aftermarket ones from Netherlands that have a Teflon innertube and are only 10 euro,s.

I haven't used one on a drum brake fs1e so couldn't comment on the fit but I am about to have some more parts shipped so if you want one I could have it sent with my order to save you the postage ;)
